2008 Christmas Update

Early 2008 saw some big changes in the Lamont household. In February, Stuart moved to Sydney to study. In March, Cameron bought his own townhouse here in Canberra and moved in.
Rick lost his job in April but has been fortunate to get some fairly regular part time work to keep him going. He has been busy applying for jobs since then.
I picked up full time teaching on Year 4 from July. I have just finished the year! It has been very busy, but mostly enjoyable.

The exciting news is that Stuart and Cherie announced their engagement in November! (See more photos below.)
Cherie comes from South Korea. They met in Sydney this year. Cherie came to Sydney five years ago to study and then work. Cherie has just returned to Korea to visit her family and will be joined by Stuart in a couple of months. He is organising a job to teach English there. He hopes to leave in February.
The plan is for them to marry in South Korea and then in Sydney! They hope to be living back in Sydney by 2010.
Stuart is moving home to Canberra before Christmas to spend some time before leaving for South Korea.
Rick and I have enjoyed the time at home alone this year! In July we enjoyed a week's holiday on Lord Howe Island. Such a beautiful place. That's us above!
So, all in all, 2008 has been an eventful year. We are thankful that we've all been quite healthy.
Hope you are also well and we wish you a Merry Chirstmas and a Happy New Year.
Love from Janelle and Rick. xxxxxx

Exciting news!

The exciting news in that Stuart is engaged. Yes, he asked Cherie to marry him and they announced their engagement when they visited us in Canberra just over a week ago. It was Saturday 15th November . Of course they have put it on facebook, but I may as well put a photo or two here as well. They plan to marry sometime in 2009, but it's early days for any firm plans. Cherie goes back to Korea to visit her family tomorrow ( Monday 24th Nov). We wish her a great reunion. More news later.

Dragons Abreast Regatta 25/10/08

Last Saturday I joined my colleagues at school and competed in the Dragon Boat Regatta on Lake Burley Griffin.
It was organised by DragonsAbreast to raise money for breast cancer research and it was very successful.
It was such good fun. We didn't make the final but we were in two heats. I think it was a 200 metre race and we were pleased we made it in 1min 4 secs and 1min 6 secs ( better times than in our 3 training runs). I think 36 teams competed.
Lots of us want to do it again. We are told there's another regatta in Feb 2009. Janelle.

Floriade Visit : October 9, 2008

Mum and Dad and Deirdre visited Canberra on October 9 and 10, 2008. We went to Floriade on Friday October 9. It was a perfect day weather-wise and we all enjoyed the time. The flowers were better than we expected at this late stage of the festival.
Sylvia and Janelle accompanied them and Amy came to meet us briefly.
